Row 2: ch 1, turn. sc across
Rows 3 to 9: repeat row 2

Row 11: ch 3, turn. dc in each st across.

In the making..

When I see something interesting and beautiful, I always wish to make one for me. One such thing I was recently impressed and loved was these granny squares pillow cover. I was so impressed, I wanted to make one for me really quick. Loved the color and pattern very much. I really appreciate the taste for colors and the way its been made. Now this has really inspired me in sewing too. But hubby promised will get me a sewing machine immediately after we move to our new place. Keeping my fingers crossed for the new transition and interest in our life. :)

Bloomer

How can one forget their first project. Yes, this is my first project in Knitting.

Out of boredom and in search of pursuing a hobby seriously, I landed up here - Arcadia Knitting.  Sharon and Kathy were two amazing people who engaged my Saturday and Sunday afternoons so fruitfully, I learned Knitting with a great interest. If you are in Chicago and wanna learn Knitting, Arcadia Knitting is your place.

Well coming back to my first project, from the beginning baby category was my fav category.

Honey Bunny

I first saw this pattern http://knittingfromtheheart.blogspot.com/ I thoroughly enjoyed doing my first doll.

It gives an immense satisfaction when the end product is something nice and beautiful. The most happiest part is when you give to a kid as a gift. Atleast I get an immense satisfaction when I gift I child which I make. Its a wonderful feel and joy when I see a smile on the kids when they receive these gifts

Flower-II

I happened to watch youtube video on how to make a flower and came up with a simple version of my own.
Chain 6 stitches
Join the loop and do 16 single crochet. Join the row with a slip stitch.
In the first chain, do 4 DC and slip stitch on the same chain.
Slip stitch the next two chains and do 4 DC on the next chain.
Keep doing until u get 5 petals. Now join to the first petal with a slip stitch
Chain 4stitches and join to the end of the petal. Continue this until you get 5 such loops at the back of the petal. Join with a slip stitch.
Now for each loop do two sets of 5 QC forming 2 petals for each loop with a total of 10 big petals.
Slip stitch at the end of the row and cut off the yarn.
The resultant will be

Rava Ladoo

From this post, I am going to add yet another hobby of mine - Cooking.
I am little lazy and always want things to be fast. Like wise I love to cook fast. Sometimes it favors and sometimes it goes against my taste buds.

But here all that recipes will for sure yum your taste buds.
Rava Ladoo

Ingredients :
Rava/Sooji - 1cup
Sugar - 1/4 cup
Milk - 1/2 cup
Grated  coconut - 1/4 cup
Cashews - 5-10(according to your love for cashew)
Raisins - hand full
Ghee - 2tbsp

Procedure:
For the entire procedure keep you stove in medium flame.
  1. In a pan roast the cashews and Raisins with ghee until they become golden brown
  2. Add the grated coconut and fry till you smell the coconut and ghee (not more than 1-2mins)
  3. Now add the rava/sooji and keep tossing until the rava turns slightly brown.
  4. Add the sugar and keep stirring until the rava, sugar and coconut along with the cashew and raisins mix well.
  5. Its now time to add the milk. The caramelized sugar would have already helped the ingredients to mix well. So add milk appropriately so the mix is in a consistency of making ladoos.
  6. Now switch off your stove and allow the mixture to cool.  At medium heat, start making the ladoos. Never let the mixture to cool down completely, then its not possible to make ladoos.
PS: Consistency of making ladoos means, when u take a little amount of the mixture and try to make a ball, it should not fall apart.

Pillow cover

The red heart website has got so many free patterns to try my hands on both knitting and crochet.
I wanted to try on this pillow cover as a start. though its has not come out as clean as the original pattern, I was happy that I could make something similar to the original.

For the pattern please click http://www.redheart.com/free-patterns/mod-striped-pillows
 For the pattern I used
For the front side of the pillow cover
Center :

Ch 16 stitches and
Row 1-Single Crochet make symmetrical squares for 25rows. For the left and right hand side pick 50 stitches and SC. Continue same number of rows as original.

For the back of the pillow cover,
First half
Center
Ch 16 stitches and SC each row for 17 rows. For the left and right side pick 35 stitches and SC . Continue same number of rows as the original
Second half
Center
Ch 16 stitches and SC for 8 rows. For the left and right side pick 15 stitches and SC. Continue the same number of rows as original.

Now join the front and the twoback pieces.

This is the first time I am writing pattern for crochet. Please pardon if its not understandable.
