Flower board deco

I saw this wonderful flower board on Ergahandmade and wanted to try exact similar one for my home too. Its an excellent recycling method for your cartons and cardboard boxes too. All you need is the following

1. Cardboard box
2. Fabric glue
3. Yarns of your choice
4. Cloth to cover the cardboard box
5. Buttons
6. Stapler
7. Satin Ribbons
8. Scissors
9. 3 mm Crochet hook

Step 1: Cut the cardboard to your required size and cut your choice of fabric to a size slightly bigger than the cardboad box

Step 2: Staple the fabric around the cardboard

Step 3: Start crocheting your choice of flowers. I have attached the video links for some of the flowers that I chose for my wall decor.

Flowers:

Step 5:Attach the flowers at your choice of placement with fabric glue.

Step 6: Attach satin ribbons as stems for the flowers
Step 7: Crochet leafs and attach to the satin ribbons
Step 8: Add buttons or butterflies or appliques of your choice to fill the blank spaces. I crocheted butterflies.

Leaf pattern:
Row 1: Ch 7 and SC in the stitch next to the crochet hook, HDC in the next chain, DC in the next 3 other chains and 3 HDC in the last chain and turn
Row 2: Now on the other side of the chains DC in the next 3 chains, HDC in the next chain and SC in the last chain and join by slip stitch to the first SC.

The final product will be a very beautiful wall decor.

Know your yarn

Knowing your yarn and needle is always a good habit especially when you want to go a level above amateur crochet/knitting. 

With no Redhearts,Lionbrands, Carons and other fancy yarns around, the local yarns try their level best to match with international standards and they do an amazing job to bring we Indians the satisfaction of doing something equally good. The yarns available outside India usually come with a brand name and tips like size, how to wash it, what can be made out of it, and most importantly the what is it made of ( acrylic, wool, cotton). But in India most of the local made yarns are available without these instructions. So understanding the yarn is a very important task before beginning any of our projects.  Here in India we try to follow the UK standards. The yarns are mostly referred in ply.  Most of the yarns are 100% acrylic. We do get cotton, silk and wool.

Fellow crochet friends who already know the ply difference and texture difference can differentiate and choose their yarns accordingly. But most friends who are beginners always ask how to choose their yarns.  

So to make it handy, I wanted to write it down as a post.

I personally recommend beginners to choose 8 ply yarn to start learning your crochet. This way you will first know how to handle your yarn firmly and will never be disappointed once your beginner level project gets completed. Initially while learning do not bother about the size of the end product and perfection. Learning the basics perfectly is your first lesson and not achieving the perfect size end product. Practicing makes you perfect and I'm sure you will end up with cute little projects . :) Happy Crocheting/Knitting.

Accessory organizer

I always like my things organized. Now dont get a feel that I'm all that clean- clean person.. I love to mess it up too :)


I know how moms feel when they are all set to go out and finding that matching hair clip, band and other stuff for their little daughters. How much ever we organize, we always get this thought, can this be made even simpler.I really donno if this organizer is of that sort, but simply loved it the first moment I saw. I liked the opportunity to play with colors and creativity.

Felt flowers

My first try on felt. As always it starts with a beautiful blossom. Yes, these are felt flowers that I learnt through Pinterest.
I had been using felt as an accessory for my crochet works. But never had an opportunity to try crafts using felt. Today finally made some time and tried making some little flowers. Actually, I did not have those flower colors. All I had was white, black, dark and light brown felt with me. This didn't stop me from trying my experiment.

Materials Required:
Felt
Scissors
Fevibond.
Fabric colors ( If you want to paint them )
